Perry is a Chicago native she was born into Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. On the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as seen by flashback), her mother played Jackie Harris in two of Perry's early TV appearances. In fear of stress, her parents didn't want to see the actress pursue acting until turning 18. Perry was shy during high school and was not a performer. The actress began her acting career at Northwestern University to gain friends after she was moved to the university from Boston University. Perry moved to New York, where she landed small roles in series like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Home sickiness brought Perry home to California which was where theatre jobs were in demand. In 2013 she performed in The Other Place on Broadway with her mother. In 2015, she performed with her father and Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning film Anna Christie at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry played a part in nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family during 2016. In 2017, Perry starred in an appearance on ABC's political thriller Scandal along with her father. That same year she portrayed a child model of Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory), portraying her mother in a youthful version. The actress was chosen for the role despite having a close familial connection to the character.
